Unique Wall Calendars, Desk Calendars and Advent Calendars
History of Calendars, clocks and time keeping
We might think that the practice of keeping track of time in the form of days, weeks, months and years is a rather modern concept. We would be very wrong. The history of calendars spans several thousands of years! Different cultures devised their own way to record a calendar year that vary greatly in the way they tracked one year.
The oldest known calendar dates back to 8,000 BCE and was found in Scotland and tracks a lunar year.
What is the difference between a calendar and a planner?
Well, actually both show the year by at least the months but that is where the similarity ends, in my opinion. A calendar is meant to be on a wall or desk and provides squares or rectangles that can be used to jot down short notations. It is not usually easily taken with us but meant to be glanced at during the day.
A planner, on the other hand, can do so much more! For one thing, they are meant to be mobile and easily carried with us during the day or evening. They are basically a book style calendar that gives us many more options to keep track of the appointments, classes, meetings and other events that happen on a daily basis.
Planners will almost always have other sections in them that a calendar does not provide. There is almost always a place to keep addresses and phone numbers. Student planners will have a class schedule space included and many will have a place to record our goals and the progress of our goals.
Personally, I would be lost without my planner! I use it every day to keep myself organized.
